When You Sense You Are Losing Touch, Touch Grass

The pandemic, coupled with advancements in technology, has caused us to be the most isolated, lonely, and depressed people of all time. In 2023, ABC News reported that according to a survey, published by Gallup, 29% of all U.S. adults report being diagnosed with depression at some point in their lifetimes. This is the highest ever recorded by analytics since tracking depression rates. Healthcare professionals have linked these increasing depression rates to increased technology use.

While smartphones have so many advantages, just like anything there are also disadvantages. The algorithms have accomplished their intent of creating addiction, fabricating animosity, and generating discontent. How would your life improve if you made different choices and stepped away from technology for an hour each day?

Our technological advancements and shifting priorities have caused an imbalance that is detrimental to our health. Many people allow weeks or months to pass without touching grass, smelling flowers, or hearing crickets chirp. Our lives have become distorted with images of celebrities, perfectly curated videos, toxic political discourse, and yet another Netflix series.

How would your life improve if you shifted a portion of each day to nature? Walking in the park, photographing nature, planting a garden, or camping with friends are outstanding ways to connect with nature.

During our Nourish campaign, we will celebrate “Touch Grass Tuesdays” as a reminder to enjoy nature. Get involved in our “Touch Grass Tuesday” contests by sharing your nature photographs and videos to for an opportunity to win a grand prize of 5,000 WorkTango points.
