Introducing The Hummer Heritage Collection
The Hummer family has been in trucking for over 70 years. Don Hummer got started in the industry with his father, Buck, who hauled livestock around the Midwest. Current President, Chris Hummer, grew up riding along and working in the shop before starting to drive himself. Celebrating the Hummer family history and honoring the legacy of trucking has long been a wish list item for Don and Chris.
The task at hand was finding a way to celebrate our drivers, the family legacy and the history of trucking at the same time. Part of the inspiration for this came from Truck #51, the first truck that Don drove for Buck.
"Currently Don is in the process of restoring the first truck he drove for his dad [Buck Hummer], a 1972 Kenworth K100 cabover, unit number 51," said Chris. "It is really the last of grandpa’s trucks that are left. " This was really the catalyst needed to move the idea from the wish list to reality. The next step was to pick the right truck and the Kenworth W990, launched In September 2019, was the perfect fit with the right blend of retro styling, modern comfort and performance. With the trucks chosen, further inspiration came with the realization that many iconic tractors from TV and movies were Kenworths, which led to the paint schemes that you will see on the trucks.
We are proud to introduce The Hummer Heritage Collection.
This is a special fleet of four Kenworth W990s that celebrates and honors the history of truck drivers and the trucking industry. Company drivers at Hummer are eligible to be assigned one of the four trucks. The drawing will take place during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Keep checking back over the next four weeks as we begin revealing the paint schemes and associated history of the trucks on our blog and social media.
