What you need to know about reading nutrition labels
We’ll start at the top of the label and work our way down to touch on almost everything and especially the things you’ll want to pay attention to!
Be Aware of the Serving Size. You may start eating and overeat when thinking you stayed within the serving size. If you’re trying to lose weight, you’ll want to be aware of serving sizes! Most people don’t measure their foods and overeat what a serving size is. Did you know the serving size for chips is usually between 10-18 chips?! Remember that next time you open a bag!
Check Calories. The number of calories on the nutrition label directly reflect the serving size. If you eat more then the recommended serving size, you’ll also be consuming more calories. Various factors should be taken into account when determining how many calories you should eat in a day.
Get More. Fiber, vitamins and nutrients, and protein. Most people don’t consume enough fiber causing them to be hungry sooner and their digestive system to be irregular. Vitamins and nutrients will help keep you healthy and most people don’t get enough of them! Some people get enough protein, but many don’t. Men should be consuming approximately 56 grams of protein and women should consume 46 grams of protein.
Limit. You want to limit your intake of fat, sodium, cholesterol, and added sugars. When you eat too many of these, it increases the likelihood to develop other diseases and health issues.
