Tax Day is Almost Here!
Spring is in the air, and you know what that means — it’s time to file your income tax return! Because that’s the first thing you think of when someone says “spring,” right?
The federal tax return deadline for filing 2017 tax returns is Tuesday, April 17th. You get a couple of extra days this year, because April 15th is on a Sunday, and April 16th is Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in Washington, D.C. But that doesn’t mean you should wait until the last minute to file your taxes or begin getting everything together!
W-2s were mailed out near the end of January for all Don Hummer Trucking employees who received paychecks in 2017. If you haven’t done so already, now would be an excellent time to make sure you have your W-2. If you have lost or misplaced it, please contact the Payroll department to obtain a copy.
Don’t forget about state income tax returns! If you live in a state that doesn’t collect income tax — you get to ignore this paragraph. Some states have later deadlines than the federal return deadline, so make sure you know when your state’s tax return is due.
If you find that your tax withholding for the year resulted in far too much or too little tax withheld, you may want to complete a new W-4 to change your withholding. But please keep the new tax law in mind — your 2018 taxes may be quite different from your 2017 taxes. If you’re not sure how much you should have withheld from your pay, please consult a tax professional.
