Iowa Motor Truck Association
I was fortunate enough to attend the Iowa Motor Truck Association (IMTA) Leadership Program earlier this month. The program has a long-standing tradition of offering high-quality sessions featuring some of the best educators in their field of expertise. We met with various leaders at the Iowa State Capitol and had the chance to hear from Ron Corbett, former Mayor of Cedar Rapids and current Candidate for Governor of Iowa. He spoke at length about the way his leadership style helped to get him where he is today. Between each session, I participated in different leadership activities. One of the more popular activities was called Four Things Proud. This activity required us to draw the four things in life each participant is most proud of. I’m not an artist, so there were a lot of stick figures! I saved the drawing and have it hanging in my office as a reminder of why I do what I do.
We also had the chance to participate in the regulatory partners' panel discussion with representatives from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement (IDOT). The day concluded with a tour of the Iowa Judicial Building and featured a presentation by Iowa Supreme Court Justice Wiggins.
There are three more sessions throughout the year which conclude with the IMTA Management Conference on September 5th and 6th. Feel free to email me with any questions you might have in regard to the IMTA.
