Welcome to Don Hummer Trucking
Andrea Gibbs is our newest Operations employee at Don Hummer Trucking. We asked her to answer a few questions so everyone could get to know her better.
What is one of your favorite family traditions?
My favorite family tradition would be decorating for Christmas. I absolutely love getting everyone together (usually the day after Thanksgiving) and putting up all the lights, trees, and ornaments. It’s such a joyous holiday and it’s fun to give to those that mean the most to you.
Share a funny incident from your life.
I’m quite a fan of the outdoors. Once the weather is nice enough, you rarely find me indoors during my free time. Fishing is one of the things I enjoy most. I will never forget one particular excursion. I had a decent 5 or 6-pound catfish on the line and it decided to swim into some brush. I gave my line a couple of tugs and the next thing I know the fish is flying towards my face! It slapped my cheek and slide back into my ponytail where it proceeds to wrap around multiple times. You can only imagine how stunned I was, but I was soon laughing about the matter when I realized it was still flopping vigorously from my ponytail.
Share a personal fact no one would ever guess about you.
I was homeschooled ever since I was adopted! My mother wanted to make sure we were provided with the best teaching, so she made it a point to push us through our work. I was open enrolled all through high school and was able to participate in extracurricular activities and sports. Once I went to college I was quite surprised when I saw many students struggling to keep up with their work. Thanks to my mom, I was able to finish at the top of my graduating class.
What is one goal that you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime?
I plan on owning an equine breeding farm and opening a boarding/training facility. Horses are a big part of my life and I work daily towards this goal. I recently moved back from Kentucky where I was a reproductive specialist and helped aid in all elements of reproduction. My favorite time of the year was the foaling season of course. I never grew up around horses or anything agriculture related, but I learned at a young age there was no denying my true passion!
What sports or activities do you most enjoy doing or watching?
Some of my favorite pastimes are volleyball, frisbee golfing, rodeoing, and working out/staying active! I know some of that will soon change once my body decides to catch up with me, but until then I’ll try to stay as active as I can!
What is your favorite restaurant or food?
I absolutely love Italian food. The more alfredo the better! My favorite Italian restaurant so far would have to be La Tavola in Burlington, IA.
