2018 East Central Iowa Safety and Health Conference
On Thursday, I attended the Safety and Health Conference at Kirkwood Community College. They put this on every year and it is a great way to get updated on safety concerns in the workplace. This year, the opening included a keynote speaker, Kevin Brown. His presentation was entitled “The Hero Effect”. While it contained a lot of useful information, I jotted down a few of the quotes which really stood out to me.
“You can never go wrong doing the right thing.”
“Hero: Extraordinary people choosing NOT to be ordinary.”
“You don’t want to be A choice. You want to be THE choice.”
“Influence is always a two-way street.”
“The past is a place of reference, not of residence.”
Kevin Brown is also the author of The Hero Effect: Being Your Best When It Matter The Most which sounds like a very inspirational book judging his presentation. I walked away from the conference ready to inspire and help others!
Attendees selected several mini-sessions to attend throughout the daylong conference. I participated in Fall Protection, Traumatic Stress in Unexpected Events, and a two-part session entitled Dangers of Substance Abuse in the Workplace. These sessions proved to be very informational and provided me with various insights on the subjects. If you’d like to learn more, feel free to come talk to me or email me directly.
