James Melcher- 1606- Age 33
James came to us here at Hummer after completing CDL school at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Ever since, he has excelled in his abilities and skills. He has been with us going on 4 months now, and we are so proud to have James here with us at Don Hummer Trucking!
Andrea: What did you do before you decided to go to CDL school?
James: Mostly factory and manual labor.
A: What made you decide to attend CDL school?
J: I have always loved driving, I just thought it looked fun. I figured it would be nice getting paid for doing something you enjoy. So, trucking it was!
A: What are some of the things that attracted you to Hummer?
J: The “no touch” freight! After doing manual labor my whole life, I had zero interest in unloading anything.
A: What ultimately brought you to us here?
J: My friend Vic actually started the program right out of school and he really enjoyed it here (still does). The guy is persuasive, what can I say?! But it was the right choice, I am very happy.
A: What do you enjoy doing when you are not trucking?
J: Farm work and spending time with the kids. Hanging out with my beautiful wife Liz….but most times there is not much time for anything else when you have 4 kids.
A: What keeps you here with us at Hummer?
J: I love the people and the environment here. We are a big family and the benefits are great.
A: How about some interesting facts, anything that not many people might know about you?
J: I was actually adopted from South Korea to a German family in Waterloo. Also that I am extremely loyal….I mean to a fault.
